Saunas have been used in health club facilities for decades. They remain popular due to their ability to relax a person, relieve stress and provide health benefits, but some users find the heat unbearable. Those with little tolerance to the extreme temperature can now find solace in a FAR infrared sauna.
FAR infrared saunas differ from traditional saunas since they use light to create heat rather than oppressive temperatures. Instead of heating the air around your body to elevate your core temperature, FAR infrared saunas use waves on the light spectrum that heat your body directly, according to the Mayo Clinic. This enables all the benefits of a traditional sauna without any source of discomfort. Dr. Amy Myers at Mind Body Green states there are three FAR infrared levels of which you may choose. The levels (near, middle and far) are based on varying infrared wavelengths and focus on different aspects of healing:
- • near-infrared levels are best for wound healing and increased immune function
- • middle-infrared levels are ideal for increasing circulation and promoting muscle relaxation
- • far-infrared levels are used primarily for detoxification purposes
With no negatives associated with infrared saunas, you will instead gain access to a multitude of benefits.
Flush Out Toxins
Either type of sauna has the desired effect of making you sweat, which leads to a release of harmful toxins that build up in your system. The difference, says Dr. Frank Lipman, is that infrared saunas penetrate the heat deeper into the body, allowing more sweat to escape. In return, more toxins are released that allow your body to become closer to balanced.
Lower Blood Pressure
As with any method of relaxation, a sauna is a tremendous way to unwind after a stressful day. In doing so, your muscles tend to relax while your blood circulates more freely, leading to lower blood pressure. You do not need to invest hours of your time every day to see results; all that is needed is 15-20 minutes, a few days a week, to witness the subsidence of your aches and pains.
Everyone looks for the fountain of youth, but few find it without harsh cosmetic procedures or pricey creams. FAR infrared saunas may have the ticket without the cost. The heat caused by the infrared waves will increase blood circulation, which leads to faster collagen production, according to Dr. Frank Lipman. Higher collagen production and a flushing of toxins both lead to a youthful, glowing skin appearance.
At first glance it may seem as if you are only losing "water weight," but if you examine the results closely, you may find fat being shed due to your investment in a FAR infrared sauna. Since this type of sauna is known to penetrate the skin more deeply, your metabolic rate increases and leads to 200-600 calories burned for a half-hour session. Although Dr. Frank Lipman says this won't shed a tremendous amount of weight, he notes it can add value to a healthy diet and exercise routine.
Not only can a sauna provide internal health benefits, but it can act as a catalyst for rapid exterior healing as well. According to Sunlighten, a FAR sauna "greatly enhances the skin's healing process by promoting faster cell regeneration and human tissue growth. Human cell growth increases to repair wounds and prevent infection."
Technology in the modern era has far exceeded anyone's expectations, and this holds true in the sauna market as well. No longer do users have to suffer through intolerable heats to reap the benefits that a sauna can offer. With new FAR infrared saunas, temperatures are, on average, 20-60 degrees lower than traditional saunas, making them user friendly for anyone to experience the plethora of health benefits.
